For most cycling fans, this is a familiar image: eight riders under the awning of the team bus, warming up for the race on their home trainers. It’s also not uncommon to see fans hanging around the buses to check out their favourite riders, which can be an unwelcome distraction. So, in order to keep concentration, riders often have their headphones on. Ever been curious as to what they’re listening to?

Jai Hindley is one of five young riders attracted by Team Sunweb in recent years. The 21-year-old Australian had been cycling for two years, from 2016, with non-European teams but then decided it time for something else.

The talented Hindley has accomplished a lot in his short period as a professional. He has already ridden a number of good classifications in smaller tours, such as his second place in the Herald Sun Tour, and victory in the Tour of Fuzhou.

Although Jai is talented, his skill did not come out of the blue: he fell in love with bikes when he was six years old, thanks to his parents influence.

Jai, who hopes to place well in the Tour de France one day, is currently riding his first Grand Tour in the Vuelta a España. He has already proven his worth to his team leader Wilco Kelderman by a strategic attack in the 5th stage, which ensured that Kelderman would not be isolated on the last climb of the 2nd category mountain.

It is clear that Jai is talented enough to win in the Grand Tours. Maybe it’s the music he listens to while training that motivates him? Either way, we might understand a little where his inspiration comes from by checking out his playlist.
